Beyoncé rarely does red carpets these days, so when she does, you know it’s going to be for something bigâbig like Blue Ivy Carter’s first movie premiere. On December 9, The whole Carter family, including Jay-Z, Tina Knowles, and Beyoncé, joined Blue Ivy on the red carpet for the premiere of Mufasa, which is 12-year-old Blue’s first (non-music video) acting role.
Both mother and daughter dressed in royal gold, but Queen Bey’s look took an understated approach next to her daughter. Blue wore a strapless, gold ballgown with a sweetheart neckline and a gathered detail at the waist by Christian Siriano. Bey, meanwhile, was dressed even more on-theme, in a Disney x Balmain: The Lion King collection gown, designed by Olivier Rousteing.
Beyoncé’s strapless column gown featured a plunging neckline with a gold polka dot pattern that complemented her daughter’s dress without being too matchy-matchy. Both wore their hair down, skipped the necklace, and added statement earrings instead. But while Bey was rocking her honey blonde color, Blue’s was a more natural dark brown.
This isn’t the first time Beyoncé gave Blue Ivy Carter the world’s best take-your-daughter-to-work-day, but it is the first time she’s acted with her mother. In Mufasa, Beyoncé reprises her role as Nala, while Blue Ivy voices Nala’s daughter, Kiara.
